10 Hidden Gems For The Nintendo Game Boy
Qix
I feel I couldn’t leave this game of this list of gems as it’s one of my all time favourites and the Game Boy version is fantastic. Qix was originally a Taito arcade game released all the way back in 1981, later spawning many sequels and home versions, including the amazing Volfied/Ultimate Qix on the Sega Mega Drive or Genesis if you prefer. The Game Boy version sticks the formula of the original arcade game and really nails it. The idea is to move your icon across the playfield creating rectangular shapes to claim percentage of the area, whilst avoiding moving enemies. If caught during the drawing of a line, your shape is deleted and you need to start again.
Sounds simple but it’s frustratingly addictive, especially when you manage to make it all the way across without getting caught or getting nailed at the very last pixel of your line. Qix was a perfect handheld game and a real gem that still holds up today, due to its endless replayability and you can also pick this up on 3DS Virtual Console.
