10 Hidden Gems For The Nintendo Game Boy
Side Pocket
Originally an Arcade game released by Data East in 1986, Side Pocket is probably best known for its excellent conversions to the Mega Drive/Genesis and SNES. A version however was also released for the Game Boy in 1990 and is equally well recreated on the system. If you have a basic idea of the rules of pool, the game is easy to pick up play and potting the balls in number order gains a better score.
The simple aiming and cue power controls make it possible to pull off most shots easily and the later trick shot bonus levels break up the monotony well. The balls are surprisingly easy to see on the GB’s small monochrome screen and decent music adds background to each level. If you enjoy a bit of pool, then this is a great handheld recreation and those of you that own a 3DS can also still pick this up on Virtual Console.
