10 Hidden Gems For The Nintendo Game Boy
Dragon’s Lair
The GB version of Don Bleuth’s classic was titled Dragon’s Lair: The Legend, to distinguish the obvious differences from its Laser Disc animation counterpart. A bit like the later SNES version the programmers opted for a more straightforward platform romp. However, the game itself is actually a port of the ZX Spectrum title Roller Coaster with some adapted sprites and backgrounds.
I was fortunate enough to own an original copy of this cart as a kid and it is probably the most frustratingly addictive game I have ever played. So much so that I actually had bite marks on the casing of my original Game Boy. Nowadays you would probably call it the platform equivalent of Dark souls. Saying that the levels are brilliantly designed and equally challenging today and I’m pleased to say my slightly more modern Game Boy Light handheld is completely bite mark free (at the moment).
